Tractor Simulator by GoodStoryApps is a farming simulator that heavily focuses on the driving aspect of the genre but integrates other features as well. It is a simulation to a degree—perhaps simulation lite is more appropriate—but hardcore farming simulation fans may not be satisfied. The game is ad-supported freeware, which means that you can download and play it as much as you like at no cost.

Tractor Simulator may distinguish itself in that the player operates the vehicle from a first-person view. Many perhaps most of the farming simulator apps we’ve reviewed have opted for a chase cam perspective since it provides a better view of the fields. With Tractor Simulator, you’re in the driver’s seat and have to operate a steering wheel, stick shift, gas pedal and brake.

The graphics are solid for a free Android game at the time this title was released. The tractor seems realistic enough. The on-screen controls are easily identified. What you can see of the fields and crops is attractive and realistic. You can even set the time of day as well as weather or have those characteristics randomized. Operating your tractor during a foggy morning or while it is raining changes the game.

While the game does not give you many options when it comes to your fields, there is some light simulation aspects. You’ll choose various crops for instance that you can grow in the various sections of your land. You’ll even drive your tractor to those areas to prepare the land, seed, fertilize and so forth.

When the crops are ripe, you’ll harvest them. How well you operate your tractor during this period will determine your yield. The better you operate your tractor, the better your yield. But this is the point where the simulation basically ends since it’s just rinse and repeat rather than move on to a next step.

The responsiveness of the controls can be a bit off at times, but avid plays should eventually be able to compensate. Perhaps the bigger problem is whether there is enough long-term appeal. A child who wants to drive a factor should have fun, but farming simulation fans will want more.

The in-app advertisement can be a bit bothersome at times. We’re not opposed to freeware games—especially those without microtransactions—generating revenue somehow. But these ads can pop up in the middle of gameplay, and it can be frustrating when you accidently tap an ad.
